DAY 1 : Airport – City tour Medan – Hotel

On arrival at Kuala Namu Medan airport, you will be given a personal welcome and introduced to your English-speaking guide specializing in Sumatra. You will then head for the town of Medan, about an hour’s drive away.  Arrive in Medan and visit the Maimoon Palace, the Sultan Deli Palace and the Great Mosque. Continuation of the city tour, check-in at the Emerald Garden hotel or similar.

DAY 2 : Medan Bukit Lawang _ Medan

After breakfast, early departure. You will head towards the Gunung Leuser National Park, and reach Bukit Lawang, the starting point for the jungle excursions. Along the way, stop off to visit the famous oil palm and rubber plantations.  Arriving in Bukit Lawang, lunch at the Rindu Alam hotel restaurant, followed by a trek through the jungle in the company of a trail guide (2 hours if you wish) to meet the many monkeys that inhabit it. You can observe gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques and of course the famous orang-utans, endemic species of Sumatra and Borneo threatened with extinction, return to Bukit lawang, overnight at the Ecolodge Hotel or similar. 

DAY 3 : Bukit Lawang – Berastagi

Breakfast at the hotel, departure for Berastagi, en route stop at the plantation of oil palm and beves, Lunch will be served en route. Then visit the famous Buddhist temple Lumbini, visit fruit and flower market, Dinner and overnight at hotel Grand Mutiara. 

DAY 4 : Simalem Resort – Samosir

After breakfast, departure for Lake Toba. In the morning you will discover beautiful landscapes along the way. The first visit will be to the typical village of Batak Karo in Lingga, followed by a visit to the famous Sipiso-piso waterfall. One of the rivers that feeds Lake Toba, Continuation to Simalem Resort for the beautiful scenery of Lake Toba 1600 meters above sea level. Lunch will be served at Simalem Resort.   Your Guide will take this opportunity to start telling you about the history of these peoples and the singularities of their culture before setting off in the direction of Lake Toba.  Formed by the eruption of a supervolcano some 74,000 years ago, which decimated a large part of the human population, this is the largest volcanic lake in the world. You will enter the lake from the east, offering superb views.  You will then visit the palace of the Batak king Simalungun in Pematang Purba before boarding a ferry that will take you to the island of Samosir (a short hour’s journey). Arrival on the island and accommodation at the Tabo Cottage hotel or similar.

DAY 5 : Visit to traditional Batak Toba villages

You will take advantage of this day to visit the eastern part of Samosir Island, which contains the main Batak Toba cultural sites. Your first stop is Simanindo, where you will discover a small museum (Huta Bolon) and some well-preserved traditional houses.  You will also take the opportunity to watch a traditional dance performance.  You will then travel to Ambarita, famous for its stone armchairs. This is where the courts of justice used to be held.  In the afternoon, you will travel to Tomok to visit the tombs of the Sidabutar kings. You will then climb a little higher to enjoy the magnificent views over the lake.  Return to the hotel, evening at leisure. Overnight at the Tabo cottage hotel or similar.

DAY 6 : SAMOSIR ISLAND – MEDAN (175 km/6h) (BD)

In the morning you will travel to Parapat by ferry (approx.1h) then depart for Medan via palm oil plantations, rice terraces and small towns such as Pematang Siantar and Tebing Tinggi. Arrival in Medan. Check in at Hotel Emerald Garden or similar.

DAY 7 : Medan – Kuala Namo Airport

Early morning departure to Kuala Namo International Airport for your onward flight. End of our service.
